Representation of interests

We promote the marine equipment industry and the duty-free trade and, with over 140 member companies, are your strong interest group and negotiating partner

  • at federal and state level with ministries, authorities, agencies, institutions and associations,
  • at EC level via OCEAN with authorities and organizations in Brussels,
  • at international level via ISSA at supranational organizations.

We have influenced many legislative proposals in the interests of the industry and have thus been able to prevent our members from being disadvantaged. For example, we have achieved a VAT exemption for ship equipment deliveries to commercial shipping, ensured that the quantity limit for duty unpaid ship supplies was lifted, achieved a small quantity regulation for "sensitive" goods in the transit procedure and the exemption of ship supplies from the licence requirement in the refund procedure, an extension of the export refund procedure for EC agricultural goods to ship supplies in third countries, negotiated exemptions for ship supplies in EU veterinary law and technical third-country equipment in the context of special use. We enter our members in the German Ship Supplier Register - a detailed directory of our member companies and their business areas - free of charge.
With this four-colour brochure (DIN A5) in English, we advertise annually to over 4,000 shipowners, ship chandlers, shipbrokers, shipyards and industry-related companies around the world, to whom we supply this proven and recognised reference work for sources of supply in the shipping industry. For a
fee, members are also included in the annual edition of the ISSA Register, the membership directory of the International Ship Suppliers and Services Association, which also advertises the registered companies worldwide.

Through our association, you are also a corporate member of the International Ship Suppliers and Services Association, ISSA, the association of national ship chandlers' organisations to which over 1,400 companies in 77 countries belong. The ISSA promotes and represents the interests of ship chandlers worldwide. It has created terms and conditions for ship chandlers and published the ISSA Ship Stores Catalogue.

This technical product catalogue contains over 25,000 items, serves to specify goods and simplify orders and has been sold to shipowners and ship chandlers all over the world since 1978. The ISSA offers you the framework for international developments and business contacts with ship chandlers all over the world at an annual convention (general meeting and in-house exhibition). German ship chandlers acquire ISSA membership by registering in the ISSA register.

As a federal association, we are in constant contact with numerous federal and state authorities, institutions and organizations that are important for our industry. It has often been possible to solve difficult problems for our member companies because we have lobbied for them in the right place and established the necessary contacts.

Exchange

The informal exchange of information and experience between members promotes cooperation and economic success. The Annual General Meeting plays a key role in this, where upcoming problems are discussed and solutions sought, experiences are exchanged and the latest developments and trends are dealt with. Our members deal with specific projects or problem solutions in working groups. Membership of the German Shipsuppliers Association gives you access to over 130 new contacts in the industry. International discussion groups at the annual ISSA Convention serve to promote the exchange of experience among ship suppliers worldwide.

Seminars

We organize free seminars and information events for you and your employees to provide a quick introduction to complex new regulations. Topics were e.g:

Use of the association emblem

As a member of our association, you are authorised to use the emblem of the German Ship suppliers Association and, as an ISSA member - entered in the ISSA Register - the emblem of the ISSA on your letterheads. This allows you to advertise your membership of the national and international association. Membership of the German Ship Suppliers Association and the ISSA strengthens your position with business partners at home and abroad.
